Head lice are wingless insects that plague our child so often. Most of the time, we do not know where they come from. Once a head louse gets to the head of our child, it will start laying as many as 60-100 nits in their 30-day lifetime. They have natural binding agents that they use in sticking their eggs on the base of each hair strand. With their brownish to grayish colored bodies, they are invisible in our naked eye. They are treacherous enemies that infest our child and we must find some effective ways of controlling them from spreading.
First, we have to consider that theyare everywhere. They are present in every nook and cranny of our house. Everywhere our children go, they are also there. Perhaps you are wondering why children of preschool age are the ones who are always infested with lice. This is so because they are the members of the family who shares personal belongings with the others, and they always come in contact with the other member of the household. Their propensity to spend time in dirty places like playgrounds and attics makes them the perfect candidate for head lice infestation.
Controlling their spread will start in confirming who among the family members serves as the host for them. Treat those persons immediately to prevent the lice from transferring to other persons. These persons should be checked from time to time to see if they still have lice.
Maintaining a clean environment in the house is also a crucial part of controlling the spread of them. Start by having a general cleaning at least twice a week and make sure that you cover every corner of the house. Clean and disinfect rugs, carpets, and pillows. It is better if you can vacuum these things as well as the furniture. Clothes, linen and other textile material should be washed and rinsed in water that is approximately 130 Degrees F. This ensures that these things are thoroughly cleansed. Combs and brushes are advised to be soaked in hot water to disinfect them. Though lice are practically hard to manage, it is not necessary to hire a pest exterminator.
Last and the most important step of all is to make sure that your family keeps themselves clean all the time. Proper hygiene is like a vaccine against these head lice. These pests will find it hard to thrive and multiply in your child's head if it is always clean.
Preventing lice from colonizing your home is not a hard task at all. You just have to make sure that your home is cleaned regularly. You have to be determined and persistent in combating those pesky head lice.
